One of my favorite summer pass-times is swimming. With goggles on and the outdoor speakers turned up playing Bossa Novas, Sambas, and Tangos, I put on my fish personality. Slicing through the warm turquoise water to the Latin beats, the alternate reality fills my imagination. I am weightless, and lithe.
My affinity for fish is evident in my work. I return to their beautiful forms, supple bodies, and variations in color and pattern. The rainbow trout is magical, with a multitude of variations in hew, camouflage with subtle stripes and spots. They move with speed and grace through the lights and shadows in moving water.
This is a celebration of the Trout as a mother-goddess, Madonna, attended by her putti trout and little trout fry. The personification of a Trout-woman with kicking feet and hand-fins is a play on my self-identification with this noble species. The corner icons acknowledge the moon phases that affect the water, our primal home.
