Redtail Hawk

Materials: Silk/Satin/Sequins Wood/UV acrylic

Spirit Animals hold power in many cultures, the animal speaks to a person in a non-verbal way offering strength to the inherent character qualities in an individual. This is especially true in the Native American tradition in which the characteristics of the spirit animal inform the special gifts of a person and often become part of their name; they become known as a personification of their spirit animal.

The Redtail Hawk, as a Spirit Guide, empowers the person with intuitive wisdom, the ability to make swift decisions, the gift of divine sight. The Redtail represents courage, leadership, intelligence and keen observation.

The Redtail icon shows the hawk from above, as God would observe their flight; and from below, as the human would watch the hawk circle and dive. The corners illustrate the hawks’ characteristics with Native American symbols (clockwise from upper right) the rattlesnake jaw for strength, a lightening strike for power and speed, the shaman eye for wisdom and watchfulness, and the feather for courage and strength. The geometric border illustrates the Sky Band believed to lead the Spirit to happiness.
